Our Households

Our household model of care puts our residents at the heart of everything we do.  This is one of the changes our new Director of Nursing Joan has brought to the home.  This innovative and award wining approach breaks down the traditional nursing home into households.

There are 6 households within Bridhaven including our newly opened Lavender cottage.  Our households range in size from 13-23 people.  Each household is separate from the others and has it’s own personal and shared spaces.  The households are full of home comforts and each has their own specialist care team who provide continuity of care for our residents so we can get to know exactly how they like things to be.  We know that it’s the little things that matter most.

Brídhaven opened in 1989 with 24 beds, the site having been acquired by the Mills’ Family from the Sisters of Mercy. It is named after Saint Brigid (Irish: Naomh Bríd), one of Ireland’s patron saints. The nursing home offers residential care services to people from Mallow, North Cork, Cork City, and surrounding areas.

All rooms come with a range of furniture and facilities to ensure your comfort.  This includes a height adjustable single bed, built-in wardrobe, bedside table, lounge chair, plus a wall-mounted TV as standard.  We encourage all residents to bring special items from home to personalise their environment.

Lavender Cottage

Lavender Cottage, our new dedicated home for specialist Dementia care, was created to enhance the lives of people living with dementia.
Our dementia-friendly home will enable our vulnerable residents to move around as they wish, in a meaningful and engaging environment, without the risk of getting lost. It provides a safe, supportive space, designed with visual prompts in mind.

Our specialist trained care workers provide encouragement and assistance to restore the simple pleasures in life. The homelike kitchen will prompt residents to eat when they feel hungry, the bright and airy sitting room is a place to relax and enjoy the stunning garden views. Our Social Care Model focuses on specialist care to include activities for residents with dementia.

These activities include:

  • the stimulation of memory
  • communication through reminiscence experiences
  • communication through sensory experiences
  • talking and playing games

Feedback shows that Lavender Cottage is working very well for our residents.
